East Coast surf cities are a bit enchanting. The surf is not as massive as on the other side of the country, where it swells and whips surfers around like an aquatic roller coaster. The East Coast's more docile waves are a bit more forgiving and have a more user-friendly aspect that tends to be more inclusive to potential surfers. Still, these Atlantic surfing enclaves are not without its esoteric elements and die hard cliques. Additionally, the majority of surfing spots on the East Coast are in the heart of the Tar Heel State. The Carolinas and Florida alone are home to some of the best surfing in the country. So, this touch of Southern Charm mixed with the free spirited nature of surfing is a unique conconction that I wanted to capture.

 

I spent a few days covering the Wrightsville Beach Surfing Pro-Am and tried to get a feel for this event. I also ending up just trying to get a feel for the town as a whole. Here are a few of the photos that were the catalyst of a film I am creating on Wrightsville and the surfing culture that exists here.
